The following night, Saturday, New Zealand’s dream team of female vocalists, Lady Killers, including Tina Cross, Suzanne Lynch and Jackie Clarke, will take to the Uxbridge stage. The group’s sound crosses genres from pop, R&B, jazz, gospel, country to a whole lotta rock and gleefully name-checking iconic artists such as Queen, The Beatles, Neil Young, Neil Finn and Dolly Parton.
The following Thursday, October 20, Miho Wada will present Miho’s Jazz Orchestra which she formed in 2011. It’s been described as one of the most entertaining jazz acts in New Zealand.
Miho will bring an energy packed pocket-sized orchestra to Uxbridge with its special brand of uplifting, feet-tapping tunes mixed with melancholic, romantic melodies.
Their unique sound combines Afro-Cuban flute, J-Pop, and stylish contemporary jazz with a pan-Pacific flavour.
The festival will close on Friday October 21 with Nathan Haines’ first performance at Uxbridge. He will join guitarist brother Joel Haines for an evening of genre-bending original material with an electrified band featuring Michal Matryniuk on synthesisers and keyboards, Cameron MacArthur on bass and Stephen Thomas on drums.
Now based in New Zealand after a 20-year stint in London, Haines is internationally recognised as an innovative artist based in the jazz and soul idioms, with current releases on the UK’s Warner Classics and Jazz labels, as well as being a regular headline artist at London’s legendary Ronnie Scott’s jazz club.
