Win $6000 worth of pearls from Timmermans Jewellers NZ Life And Leisure

Stephen Timmermans says pearls are making a comeback. He should know. He’s the man fronting the family firm started by his father in 1952 and ever since then associated with the sparkle and gleam of fine jewellery. A Tag Heuer watch, a Mont Blanc pen, a bracelet by Ole Lynggaard or a little something by Gucci… they’re all on display in the glossy Timmermans store in Auckland. But it’s pearls that have Stephen aglow with enthusiasm – South Sea pearls in particular.
South Sea pearls look handmade – which of course they are: patiently layered by oysters in the pristine waters off Broome in Western Australia’s north. It’s a time-consuming, labour-intensive journey from there to velvet-lined jewellery box. Apart from lustre and purity and that magic ability to make the wearer’s skin look luminous, Stephen thinks pearls’ real beauty lies in the way they can look classical and up-to-the-minute at the same time, just as good with jeans and boots as a city suit.
Our special birthday prize proves his point. He has chosen a 48cm strand of 37 silver/white pearls graduating from 9mm to 11mm with an 18ct white-gold clasp, made by Autore in Sydney. It looks luscious and modern and not at all as if it should be worn with a twinset. It comes with an authenticity certificate and is teamed with a pair of perfectly matched earrings… pearls beyond price indeed.
