When a young woman discovers love letters from another era in a rented cottage, she soon becomes obsessed by the dramatic tale they tell.
“My latest book, Hearts Set Free is about woman (Clara) in late 18th century England who defies society’s conventions by falling in love with a black servant, an ex-slave,” Clarks Beach author, Elaine Blick, explains.
“What gives her the courage to go against her family and society at large? This question intrigues another woman (Debra) 200 years later as she reads the letters.

“It hits so close to home that it threatens to tear Debra’s marriage apart.”
Hearts Set Free is available now at Chapters bookshop in Pukekohe, online via Amazon or direct from the publisher – pegasuspublishers.com.
However, Elaine has already completed another novel, her sixth.
“My next book, Miranda, is also set in the late 18th century, this time in Jamaica and South Carolina.
“It follows the life of one of the minor characters from Hearts Set Free, a black woman who has a burning desire to ensure her people are equipped to deal with emancipation when it comes. I was inspired by her feisty character and felt
compelled to tell her story too.”
She expects Miranda to be published next year.
