Our story begins in Pukekohe in 1949 - that’s when Bernie and Norah Balle embraced the family tradition and bought a small paddock on the Bombay Hills and started planting, growing and selling potatoes. Three generations down the track that first paddock has expanded a little – as has the family. But that same family still does what it has always done here – grown beautiful potatoes in great soil ensuring the best flavour and texture. The family character and their passion for this land have held on through the generations too – which is summed up perfectly by the name ‘chip off the old block’. It says something about the potato sand a lot about the family. Chip Off The Old Block potato chips are only ever made with Balle family grown and supplied potatoes which the chip makers then only ever cook in natural sunflower oil and then only ever sprinkle with natural seasonings. When they are Flat Cut Chips they're sliced thick with their skins on and when they’re Kettle Chips they’re cooked slowly and long in batches for a bigger crunch. The Balle family believes: “To make a good chip, you have to start with a great potato” Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing better.
