This year The Block has moved to east Auckland to the leafy suburb of Meadowbank. A stone’s throw from Remuera and the sandy beaches of Mission Bay, Meadowbank is becoming a popular suburb for families and has a real community feel.
But this year there’s a twist! Gone are the loved up couples vying for the top prize to build their dream family home, this season we’re in the friend zone with each team being made up of two best mates. They’re leaving their girlfriends, boyfriends, pets and partners behind, while they test their skills and friendships against three other teams. Two female teams and two male teams will face-off against each other in the biggest Block challenge to date – 1980s townhouses. Possibly the ugliest homes we’ve ever started with on The Block NZ, they will be transformed into the most environmentally friendly, energy efficient and sustainable houses the contestants have ever been tasked with.
