Tauranga musician Joel C Blood’s band Ghetto Sunrise has released their debut album, two years after first coming together.
Ghetto Sunrise is being dubbed the new face of New Zealand drum and base and comprises of Joel C Blood on guitars, vocals and programming, B-Sey on bass and synths, and Josh Burke on guitars and backing vocals.
Their recently-released album sees Ghetto Sunrise depart from the roots-inspired electronica of their debut EP, and move into a hard and heavy realm to deliver an album with energetic live drum and bass sound.

Their recently-released album sees Ghetto Sunrise depart from the roots-inspired electronica of their debut EP, and move into a hard and heavy realm to deliver an album with energetic live drum and bass sound.
“Ghetto Sunrise is comprised of heavy drum and base fanatics and we felt that it was time to return to our roots and release something with a harder edge, whilst still maintaining the characteristic dynamics our fans love us for,” says Joel.
The band welcomes new guest member Emma Petera, who sings lead vocals on ‘Lost and Higher’ on their new album.
“Emma has been a friend of the band since its inception in 2012. She is a killer vocalist and drum and bass fiend, so it just made sense she came on board and worked with us on this album,” says B-Sey.
The self-titled record features 13 songs the band say are reminiscent of Shapeshifter, Pendulum, Black Sun Empire and the Prodigy.
“This record will appeal to the palate of live music lovers and vinyl nuts alike,” says Joel.
“We take the audience to a whole new musical environment with this record.”
SunLive has a signed copy of the band’s self-titled album to give away.
