Christchurch Mother Tracy Austin invented the virtual ID system - Mimark. When Tracy flatted as a young adult – she was knocked off her bike and was admitted to hospital as a Jane Doe. Nobody knew she was there for three days. Fast forward 20 years and now as a Mother of two haemophiliacs sons, she wanted to ensure that the same thing wouldn’t happen to them.
The ‘recogniser watch’ replaces a clunky medic-alert bracelet. Simply by scanning the QR code or texting the number on the wrist-band, emergency services can automatically access the person’s identity, their emergency contacts, doctor and any allergies or health information that they have registered. The Mimark pack also comes with stickers that can also be placed on personal property, so it is always accessible.
Whilst the target market is children, it is appealing to sportspeople and the elderly. Whilst not all elderly know how to used QR technology – nearly all of them know how to text, so it is the perfect system to give their families peace of mind.
