In July this year global beauty brand Maybelline partnered with Miss FQ to launch a nationwide search to find six fabulous, motivated and ambitious young women who would benefit from dream mentoring and money-can’t-buy experiences. The lucky six girls who were selected include; Auckland’s 16-year-old Georgia Wilshire, 20-year-old Katie Rose Clausen and 22-year-old Krystal Ween together with Christchurch’s 22-year-old Lucy Egan, Palmerston North’s 17-year old Rhyana McNab and Whangarei’s 20-year-old Jodahn Gibson. Each of the girls will receive opportunities tailored specifically for them and for their field of interest.
Georgia Wilshire has a passion for food and nutrition and aims to be a top dietitian. She will have the opportunity to spend time with her role model and inspiration Nadia Lim, co-founderof My Food Bag. She will also meet with clinical and outpatient dietitians, will hone in on her writing skills with a nutrition column for Miss FQ and gain work experience at Auckland’s recently opened True Food and Yoga wellness centre.
Katie Rose Clausen is a creative entrepreneur and budding tattoo artist. As a cancer survivor, Katie hopes to be an inspiration to other women and show that giving up is never an option. Katie will be given an apprenticeship opportunity with a leading NZ tattoo artist and connected with some of the country’s leading creative minds such as Otis Frizell and Liz & Neville Findlay to find create ways of expressing her artistic talent to the world.

Krystal Ween has always been interested in all things beauty related, and hopes to be a top makeup artist specialising in fashion. Krystal will be mentored by top local makeup artist Rani Shortland. Some of the many upcoming opportunities she will take part in include creating the beauty look for Miss FQ’s digital editor, Skye Ross, for the upcoming Miss FQ fashion show at NZ Fashion Week. She will also join the Maybelline team of makeup artists at New Zealand’s biggest event, the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards in November.
Lucy Egan dreams of being a top female scientist working as a plant breeder to produce sustainable crops to feed the world. She will be mentored at New Zealand-based food science research company, Plant and Food Research where she will spend time with their team in both Lincoln and Te Puke, focusing on our iconic national crop, Kiwifruit. She will also spend time with leading female scientists as a part of the L’Oreal Women in Science program. She will receive mentorship and experiences to educate her on the business and funding aspects of scientific work to prepare her for when she chooses to conduct her own research.
Rhyana McNab is a budding fashion designer. Among other opportunities and experiences, McNab’s designs will be worn by Miss FQ’s digital editor Skye Ross to the Miss FQ fashion show in New Zealand fashion week. She will be connected with some of countries top designers including Tanya Carlson and Nom*D’s Margi Robertson, and will receive business mentoring from Working Style’s Chris Dobbs. Maybelline hopes to assist McNab in creating and promoting her first capsule collection.
Jodahn Gibson is passionate about performing arts and aims to be a leader in her community by creating a holistic performing arts centre in Whangarei for youth. Maybelline ishoping to connect her with Anika Moa and members of famed dance group The Royal Family, as well as with those who can assist her with funding such as Te Puni Kokiri and the Ministry of Culture & Heritage. She will also be exposed to the business workings of a not-for-profit by spending time with Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre and will enjoy exclusive backstage experiences at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.
