As far as I'm concerned if it's a book about wine - it's good, to a point.
This is a great wee guide [not really wee - 622 pages and over 3000 wines] to NZ wines especially if you're looking for something for EVERY occasion. Too often wine guides are written by wine snobs and the wines I usually drink don't make the cut (I suspect because they're too cheap). However Cooper's books certainly seem to cover off pretty much any drop I'm fond of.
I can also see that it would be a really great book if you're wanting to try something new or even indulge in a ‘fancier' bottle for a special occasion or gift.

Cooper's style and tasting notes are simple and easy to understand - he seems to not want to exclude, but rather include those who enjoy a drop, but not the ‘fluff' that can often accompany wine tasting.
I really enjoyed the "classic" section too - it's encouraged me to try a few more wines, as I want to make sure I do justice to those that have made it on to this list.
Cooper also offers an exceptional website (www.michaelcooper.co.nz) where there is a great amount of free info as well as in-depth analysis and commentary. The free 7 day trial will allow you to experience the site and all it has to offer.
There's an excellent index at the back by wine maker - so if you have a favourite winery you can also search by maker, rather than blend.
This is a great wee book, would be a prefect traveling companion over summer if you were inclined to visit some wineries and will make an excellent Xmas gift for those who are fond of a tipple (or two!). Highly recommended.
